There are still two small draw docks on the north bank at North Woolwich, at the end of Woolwich Manor Way and Bargehouse Road, one of them walled off to vehicles and I think this was probably taken looking across the second of these when the tide was fairly high.

It is looking upstream, with the northern Woolwich Ferry terminal visible in the distance with a ferry docked and the other close to the left edge of the picture. I don't know what the rectangular frame structure in mid-stream was for.

As well as the man sitting without a shirt at the top left, you can just make out three others further along the river wall, their heads just visible, probably workmen taking a break.

This is now a part of the Thames Path, which only opened in 1996 but made use of many existing rights of way such as this. I had one of the draft proposals for consultation and made some comments I think a few years after I took this picture.
