Taken close to the previous
image but looking upriver towards the 'Windsor Line' railway bridge, this
shows the bridge going across the space were once the Wandle Canal and the
Surrey Iron Railway both ran as well as the River Wandle. Through the bridge
arch it looks like a part of the gas works site more clearly shown by the
large gas holder above the railway line. .
I'm not sure exactly what was happening on across the river here but I think
it was a yard where building materials such as sand and gravel were stored
after having been brought up the Thames by boat.
There appears to be a small bridge across the river at the right which may be one of several which carried pipes across, and I think also joined industrial premises on both sides of the river.
