Cable ship John W Mackay,
4,105 gross tonnes was built on the Tyne by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson
Ltd in 1922 and laid cables made at Enderby's Wharf around the world. She
appeared in a James Bond movie and was the oldest triple expansion steam
vessel on Lloyds register. At the time of my picture she was laid up, with
plans made for preservation which never came to fruition and was broken
up in Turkey in 1994.
